In a move that will surely give potential owners board room bragging rights for the rest of 2017, Rolls Royce took the opportunity at the Geneva Motor Show to show the world its new range of Black Badge vehicles. Similar to the Speed range from Bentley, the Rolls Royce Black Badge series sees the Ghost shrouded in a mysterious black, its purpose intensified to a whole new level and its specifications boosted by a bevy of significant upgrades.
The Black Badge Ghost is marketed to be “for the fearless”, for the individual who is uncompromising in his quest to attain the ultimate statement of his bolder side. Transformed from a model of simplicity, the Ghost has evolved to be a more tenacious, dynamic incarnation of luxury. The iconic Spirit of Ecstasy is now as dark as a shadow- her bold silhouette drawing you deeper into the night. This effect is extended throughout the exterior of the Ghost, with its luxurious black coat creating a dynamic contrast to the LED headlights. Flashes of dark chrome along the bodywork accentuate the Ghost Black Badge’s subtle sculpting, carried through to the darkened boot lid and exhaust pipes. The Rolls-Royce badge also embraces a darker side, a mark of refined craftsmanship.
Also appearing on a Rolls Royce for the first time are the 21” carbon fibre composite wheels. Designed exclusively for the Black Badge edition, the wheels draw inspiration from the Italian supercars of the 1960s- think the strong and sculpted form of the early Alfa Romeos, Ferraris and Lamborghinis. As with all Rolls Royces, the wheels feature the innovative self-righting monogram that remains upright even when the wheels are in motion.
Within, a mix of innovative, technically-crafted materials and bold upholstery transforms the interior of the Ghost into a palace of power. Comfort is engineered into the interior, with the svelte lines of the cabin enveloping the individual in an air of confidence. In line with its development as a vehicle made for the adventurous, the Ghost now features a bold two-tone upholstery, with the release model in black and tailored purple. Crafted from aerospace-grade aluminium and carbon fibre threads, the dashboard glimmers with possibility and completing the ambience is the Bespoke Starlight Headliner, bringing the allure of the night sky inside.
With a 6.6 litre twin-turbo V12 engine, the Ghost Black Badge is enhanced to be the fastest Ghost yet. Beyond speed, the upgraded 8-speed automatic transmission as well as the intelligent air suspension are meant to allow the Black Badge to be a smoother vehicle to drive, for your chauffeur of course.
Price unknown as of yet, you should expect that your order of the Ghost Black Badge to take a while to come, for perfection takes time. The artisans behind the Spirit of Ecstasy have dedicated themselves fully to crafting the ultimate ultra-luxury motor car - from the meticulously hand-polished paint to the 3D forged aluminium wheels. Every detail has been thought twice over, allowing the individual to obtain a driving and visual sensation like no other. The Black Badge series is extended to the Wraith as well, although unfortunately no such edition exists for the Phantom, which has come to the end of its esteemed run.
