Catalyst: Man and Woman
July 04, 2016

Located in the seaside city of Batumi in Georgia, "Man and Woman" is an 8 meter tall kinetic sculpture by Georgian creativeTamara Kvesitadze. Made out of metallic discs, the figures represent a Ali, a Muslim boy, as well as Nino, a Christian Georgian princess from a novel by Azerbaijani author Kurban Said. Every evening at sunset, the figures draw close together, kissing, before passing each other and parting, facing opposite directions- symbolic of the characters separation by the invasion of the USSR.

Written by the mysterious Kurban Said, who's identity was never known, Ali and Nino remains a compelling tale of love- and love lost- in Azerbaijan and the South Caucus.
